child may write an letter because of the problems they may have~Below is how a dyslexic person may write an article because of the problems they may have]

1. Typing into a word processing program and using spell/grammar checkers are a must . Using these programs with their instantaneous feedback showing misspelled words or bizarre grammar helps retrain my eyes to see the mistakes I ordinarily make in order that I can watch for them.

two. Spell/grammar checkers don’t catch each mistake in verb or word use – I still need to evidence read several times.

3. Infrequently typing slows me down enough to be able to focus – as if my measured typing speed puts a timer on my speeding mind.

4. When reading, I cover up the pages except for the part I am reading. This keeps the visual of all those words from dancing like leaves in the wind.

5. When taking those bubble tests, I lay my hand over the parts of the test I’m not using.

6. I SLOW DOWN. I must take a little time to be certain the bubble I’m filling in actually reflects the answer I’m making an attempt to give.

seven. What about those’story problems’ in maths? Dyslexic folks generally hate these things. I personally say things like’Why the heck would I try to work out whether the airplane or the bicycle will get from NY to Honolulu first – anyone knows all you have to do is ship the stupid bicycle in the aeroplane’s cargo hold – they’ll both arrive at the same time.’

May I suggest before you go anyfurther you stop and find out if you are dyslexic by taking a free online dyslexia test or purchasing our dyslexia book. By quoteing dyslexia amajg

One Response to “Seven Challenges of Dyslexia”

  1. Rachel says:

Hmmm, I’m not sure whether your approach to “story problems” would earn you any points – although it would certainly make the examiner laugh!
I work for an organisation that is currently developing an online course aimed at helping adults with dyslexia & reading difficulties to improve their reading skills, so if any of your readers would like to be notified when it’s up and running, they can register their interest here:
