It’s believed that around 18 percent of the United States, or nearly one in every five people, has a type of panic disorder, be it PTSD, panic attacks, OCD, or something else. Due to the fact that such a considerable percentage of the US has these conditions, doctors and researchers are diligently developing new anxiety cures every single year. This is excellent news for people who experience the symptoms of such disorders and are curious to know if there is anything they can do about it.

While there are pills that can relax a person with one of these disorders, anxiety treatments are not routinely found in a bottle. Pills such as Zoloft or Paxil might help a lot, however a number of sufferers with these disorders are also asked to undergo some kind of cognitive or behavioral therapy as well.

One of the main reasons that cognitive therapy is such an important part of any panic attack treatment is that while panic attacks may be brought on by chemical imbalances in the brain, it can also be initiated by the way we process and view circumstances. For example, if they expect that new people they get introduced to are bound to judge them negatively, then they could start to feel social anxiety. By exploring alternate and more balanced ways of viewing upcoming social events or meetings, then this different way of experiencing starts being part of their anxiety cure. The angst is lessened if one accepts that meetings, lectures, speeches, and things like these will be a success. If they assume that new people will enjoy meeting them, then they will experience less angst.

These forms of anxiety cures might be helpful with many other forms of anxiety, such as panic attacks. If someone learns to see that they are only going through a panic attack and that there generally is nothing wrong with them and nothing to be panicked over, this may help to reduce the panic at least somewhat.

These types of behavioral anxiety cures are not perfect and won’t be successful in all instances, however they could be helpful. While scientists work to perfect their anxiety treatments and pills, discovering alternate modes of accepting and of coping with this condition can go a long way toward helping one to cure it. If a sufferer is not provided with the best anxiety cure for their situation, at minimum they can be sure that their disorder won’t unnecessarily disrupt their daily routine.
