7 Habits of Highly Motivated People

As a pastor, motivational speaker and success facilitator, the question frequently asked by my congregants and at my success empowerment seminars is why are some people highly motivated and others are not? Here are my top seven habits of highly motivated people. To stay motivated and on top of your game, requires, developing certain positive habits, state of mind and discipline. These habits are not reserved for any special group of individuals but for anyone that would take the time to develop these habits that can keep them motivated as they pursue their objectives.

What is a habit? A habit can be defined as an automatic or conditioned response to stimuli. A habit, weather good or bad is something you do naturally and easily without thought or effort. On the other hand, motivation is often referred to as the process of arousing, directing and maintaining behaviour toward a goal. A habit therefore, can help direct and maintain behaviour toward a goal or objective. It can also determine almost everything you achieve or fail to achieve.

Here are some of the habits of highly motivated people that they often display in their personal and professional lives.

1.    Take it a day at a time: Highly motivated people have mastered the habit of taking it a day at a time. This habit is so critical to any success motivation. Highly motivated people tend to exhibit the habit of taking it a day at a time whenever they are engaged in any activity. In other words, they are not running ahead of themselves to do things that are not immediate at the expense of what is. Every step, decision or act is always with the mindset and habit of ‘take it a day at a time.’ Highly motivated people tend to be highly motivated because they are not jumping all around, moving ahead of themselves, resources or skills and engage in activities that are not relevant for the moment. But they are poised and taking it a day at a time.

2.    Everything counts: Highly motivated people never take things or people for granted. They are very conscious of the fact that everything counts, no matter the situation. They understand that there is seldom or ever any hopeless situation. This habit keeps them motivated to do what they need to do to achieve what they need to achieve and move in the direction of their anticipated expectations.

3.    Goal oriented: Highly motivated people have developed a habit of setting goals in all aspects of their lives. They know exactly what they want but also understand that in order to achieve any meaningful results you need to have goals and plans to achieving what you want. Highly motivated people spend their waking hours relentlessly searching for meaning to their lives motivated by the desire to see the accomplishment of their goals. Simply put goal setting is one the habits that contribute to why most people are highly motivated.

4.    Challenge as opportunities: The highly motivated people understand that nothing worthwhile comes easily. These individuals see opportunities in every challenge that they are confronted with. Instead of allowing those challenges to impede their progress they see it as opportunity to become better, develop or acquire new skills to address the challenges. This habit keeps them motivated to pursue their intents without wavering.

5.    Life long learning: The highly motivated people have a habit of a life long learning process. They are always willing to learn new things, new ideas and new ways of doing things so as to accommodate challenges, new projects or endeavours. They know that every investment in their personal development pays dividends that outweigh the initial investments monetarily or otherwise. Learning new ideas just about anything they desire and grow thereby keeps them motivated.

6.    Envisioning the outcome: The habit of envisioning the outcome keeps most successful people highly motivated. These individuals know what they want, have goals and action plans in place to achieve their expectation. They then visualize the outcome and seeing the perfect outcome goes a long way to keep them highly motivated and ploughing through any temporary detour.

7.    Keeping things in proper perspective: Finally, the seventh habit of highly motivated people is keeping things in proper perspective. Unfortunately, the inability to keep things in proper perspective have robbed a lot of people untold successes. You see, the highly motivated people know how to and practice the habit of keeping things in proper perspective no matter the circumstance positive or negative. They do not exaggerate or underestimate events taking place in their personal or professional lives but have developed the habit of keeping things in their respective perspective as they pursue their objectives.

4 Tips on Goal Setting

“If you go to work on your goals, your goals will go to work on you. If you go to work on your plan, your plan will go to work on you. Whatever good things we build end up building us.” Jim Rohn

Achieving your personal and professional goals either short or long term involves deciding what exactly you want to do with your life. This is an intricate part in formulating your goal setting strategies. Once you have finished your goal setting exercise you will have to break them into smaller and manageable tasks to be completed as you set out to achieve your objectives. Embark upon your goals once they are in place. Do not procrastinate but rather take action immediately.

Having daily and weekly sets of goals are the best ways to have a manageable list. As a result you will always be in the position of consistently moving towards your ultimate purpose. As everyday will provide you with opportunity, it is of great importance that you also learn to create opportunities that will help facilitate the fulfillment of your goal. This will create a feeling of accomplishment on your part thus motivating you to set more goals.

Here are some indicators that should be taken into consideration in setting goals and achieving them.

Attitude: Attitude plays an important role in setting and achieving your goals. You must ask yourself if there is any part of you or your mind that is holding you back toward the completion of your goals. Do you exhibit actions that are incongruent with your goals or that impair your plans all together? It is imperative to take immediate action to address the situation before it completely sabotages your efforts. Solutions may include developing a positive mental attitude by reading and listening to motivating and uplifting materials, enlisting the help of a coach that can hold you accountable for your actions.

Education: Most of the times we are not adequately equipped to accomplish some of our goals. For instance, starting a work from home business will need some kind of skills and information that one may not necessarily possess right now, however these skills can be acquired through formal or self education. Consequently, we must continually acquire information and expertise through out our lives so as to address new objectives, challenges or demands placed upon us. Jim Rohn remarked, “Formal education will make you a living; self-education will make you a fortune.” Education is a key in achieving your goals. If your goals require that you have a certain kind of prerequisite or specialization or demand the acquisition of certain skills, make it your priority in getting the appropriate formal or self education so as to advance your goals.

Self-Discipline: Self-discipline is often defined as the ability to get yourself to take action regardless of your emotional state. Jim Rohn said, “Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishment.” It is improbable that you will ever achieve anything worthwhile without self-discipline. It is not enough to have goals but it’s equally important to stay discipline by consistently taking action in spite of the challenges toward bringing those goals to fruition. Brian Tracy articulated in a profound way by saying, “Your ability to develop the habit of self-discipline will contribute more to your success than any other quality of character.”

Financial Situation: Personal financial situation always play a major role in achieving your goals. Have a realistic goal on how much you really want to earn. You also must be able to create plans or strategies by which you will be able to reach your earning potential. It’s of importance that in setting your goals you should also take into consideration your financial capabilities. For instance if your goal is to attend four major ‘Success Empowerment Seminars’ in the next calendar year that will provide you with information and skills that will enhance your intellectual capacity as well as move you in the direction of your anticipated goals thus your financial ramification must be taken into consideration.

To start achieving your lifetime goals, set a quarter of a century plan, then break it down to 5 year plans then break it down again to 1 year plans, then 6 month plans then monthly plans, then weekly, then daily. Then create a to-do list for the day. Always review your plans and prepare for contingencies.

7 Ways to Change Your Expectation

The law of expectation states, “Whatever you expect with confidence becomes your own self fulfilling prophecy.” Expectation is what you are anticipating and looking forward to come to pass. We all have expectations in life either personal or professional, weather these expectations are achieved is another thing. What are your expectations in life? For most people their expectation holds too many uncertainties to say the least. With that said, if your expectation was not met you can do one of two things either you change that expectation or you allow the situation to frustrate you.

Unmet expectations or lack thereof have caused tremendous troubles for a lot of people. Most individuals have abandoned their dreams and aspirations because of unmet expectations. The road for success is not without you having expectations. Therefore, your capacity to change your expectation is crucial to your overall success motivation. Here are 7 ways to change your negative expectation to positive one.

Change your focus: What is your focus? Change your focus to change your expectation. If your outcome is not what you expected, you can alter that outcome by changing your focus to produce your desired expectation. It is important to understand that what you focus on is what you bring into your life. As a result it’s important to focus on what you really want and nothing else.

Develop a very clear vision: Most people never take the time to develop a vision of what they expect for their lives, on the contrary, most of the time life is treated like a dress rehearsal. It’s improbable to expect what you have not clearly defined. Consequently, to change your expectation you have to clearly define what you expect.

Disrupt the process: If you intend to change your expectation you have to simply disrupt the process that creates the patterns of your negative expectation. Processes such as negative thinking habits and self-talk. These kinds of practices can produce unwanted expectation. Take action to disrupt negative practices, develop and enhance the practices that will move you in the direction of your anticipated expectation.

Lear what to do: Learn what to do. It’s amazing how many people actually learn to do something about their situation. These individuals are willing to learn what to do that will move them to the right direction. You apply the same strategy that is not working or at its best its producing outcomes that are not in harmony with your expectations.

Enlist the help of a mentor: I can not stress this enough. The help of a mentor or coach is invaluable. Your relationship with this individual is no that of comrades but associates that will hold accountable to your actions. He will to help you to strategize a course that yields your expectation.

Change your attitudes: Attitude is everything. To change your expectation you have to change your attitude, for this will affect how you see things. With a negative attitude toward your project will produce negative results. A positive attitude is the key.

Finale

This list by no means is exhaustive. Create positive expectation of your intents by making legitimate decisions. Nurture your expectations by never settling for anything less than what you desire and that serves your best interest. Whenever you want to change your expectation take immediate action to apply these few tips to produce what you are expecting.

5 Tips for G.R.E.A.T Success

In this post, I will look at five tips for great success. When a piece of instrument comes from the factory all its functionalities are set to the default position. But the ability to function according to design is built within it. It is your responsibility to adjust those functionalities for optimum performance. At this time, when that instrument does not function according to design it is said to have malfunctioned and its operation said to have failed because the purpose for its designed was not fulfilled. Conversely, when it functions according to designed it is said to function well and its operation termed successful. Therefore, great success is the ability to function according to design.

You are built and designed to succeed not to fail. Make a declaration that you are loaded with innate capacity, you are ordained to be a success, to operate by design, not by default and to have great success. You are loaded with potential, that’s the potential to be what you have not yet become, to do what you have not yet done, to go where you have not yet gone for you possess the potential for manifestation.

To have G.R.E.A.T success is to function according to design. Here is what the acronym G.R.E.A.T stands for:

G - Goal oriented: A goal is one of the most important ingredients in achieving a great success. If you must have a great success and contribute to the successes of others, then you cannot afford to live a sporadic and haphazard life. For that reason you must be goal-oriented.

R - Result oriented: To have great success you have to be result oriented. What this implies is that you can’t afford to be a wandering generality. You refuse to live by chance but choice. You expect to obtain results from all your endeavors from personal to professional. Hence, to be successful you must be result oriented.

E - Expectation oriented: The law of expectation states, “Whatever you expect with confidence, becomes your own self-fulfilling prophecy.” With that in mind, please understand that expectation is the act or state of expecting or looking forward to an event that is about to happen. To have great success you’ve got to have positive expectation.

A - Action oriented: Without taking action your goals will amount to nothing. The life you are going to live and the measure of success you will achieve are all being decided by the action you are taking right now. Consequently, in having a great success you’ve got to be action oriented.

T - Time oriented: To have great success you have to be time oriented. Set a time frame for the goal: for next week, in four months and set a time limit for your goal, allocating enough time to achieve the goal, while inadequate timing can frustrate the progress and execution of your goal.

You function by design when you are goal, result, expectation, action and time oriented. Having great success does come with a price and it is G.R.E.A.T (goal, results, expectation, action and time). You must have great success because you were designed for success. Go for you dreams and aspirations. Victoria Acerta!!!

Goal Setting Master Skill for Success

Goal-setting “master skill” for success. With this single skill you can almost outstrip any setback and have the advantage in your personal and professional endeavors. In the often-quoted study undertaken by Harvard University in 1979, graduates were asked how many of them had written goals with action plans for their achievement? Here was the finding from that study:

  • 3 percent had clearly defined written goals
  • 13 percent had written goals
  • 84 percent had no goals in any shape or form.

Ten years later a follow-up study was conducted on the same students from Harvard University and it was discovered that the three percent who wrote their personal goals were ten times more successful than the other 97 percent who either had written their goals haphazardly or had none.

From the above study, it shows that goal-setting is a master skill for success and its application can yield results short and long term. A lot of people will always tell you that goal setting is easy but why is it that they never have any goals written down? The assumption that the simplicity of an exercise invalidates its effectiveness is an oversight. However, taking action to process ideas and putting pen to paper is important for your success motivation. Therefore, it is imperative to reiterate that goal-setting is a function of success motivation.

I have been thinking and processing this thought that most people are drawn back at the idea of goal-setting just because of the phrase goal-setting. Now, let’s demystify that word goal setting. Henry David Thoreau queried, “Have you built castles in the air? Good, that is where they should be built. Now go to work and build foundations under them.” Most individuals are focused and engulfed with the thoughts of what I don’t want more often than what I do want. This has always been and still is a major setback to the process of goal-setting and goal achievement. Let’s break this process of goal setting down into less intimidating terms that will sensitize and inspire you to do what you ought to do on your success journey.

Begin the process of goal-setting by:

1.    Taking action: this is the action that initiates the process of goal setting as against just being dormant expecting things to change by themselves.

2.    Identifying what it is you want in each aspect of your life. Most people are unclear and confused about the answers to this question. By resolving this question you are very well on your way to the process of goal setting.

3.    Processing and marinating over these ideas. You have to allow yourself incubate these ideas until they are crystal clear.

4.    Writing them down. Here you have to put your clear and crystallized ideas on paper. This will also serve as a point of reference as you progress on your success journey.

5.    Thinking about how to achieve them.

6.    Making a list of what you will have to do to achieve what you want.

7.    Taking action: This is the process of execution that will move you toward your goal achievement.

Goal setting “master skill” for success is a definite skill that you can learn and master through consistent practice. You will make progress, see more of your dreams and life aspirations come to fruition through this process of goal setting. I cannot stress this point enough that goal setting is a function of success motivation. Take action today and you will be part of the three percent adults that actually put pen to paper and also be part of the three percent that become successful.
