One of the key elements to achieving extraordinary success is the ability to clarify exactly what you want out of life. The problem today is that most people are so fuzzy in what they want that the chances of achieving any meaningful result is very slim. Here are my top 5 steps of what you can do instantly to clarify what you want:

1. Locate where you are: At what stage are you in life? In order to clarify exactly what you want you’ve got to first and foremost locate where you are. The assumption that most people know where they are in life is simply not correct. The fact of the matter is that most people do not know exactly where they are in the scheme of things. It is of importance that as you seek to clarify what you want you must locate where you are. We tend to want things that are not in harmony with our positions in life; this incongruent situation births a lot of frustration to say the list. As you come to the understanding and knowledge of your location it helps immensely in clarifying what you want to achieve in life.

2. Establish where you want to be: Again we tend to assume that everybody knows exactly where he or she ought to be, this is not correct. There are a lot of things that goes into establishing where you want to be. For instance, your purpose, your passion and core values to list a few. Having located where you are, you want to now establish where you want to be. This is where vision comes in, the image of your preferred future. Vision will help you clarify and enable you set goals that will move you toward what you want out of life.

3. Ask empowering questions: Asking empowering questions will produce empowering responses. This is critical because if wrong questions are asked the answers will demotivate you and sabotages your efforts in the final analysis. Hence, you want to be asking empowering questions in clarifying what you want. Most people have the habit of dwelling on what they don’t want and ask questions in that regard. You want to be asking positive questions such as what exactly do I what out of my life, this relationship or business. This will help you clarify what you want.

4. Write down the ideas that come to mind: In clarifying what you want, you’ve got to learn writing down your ideas; this principle is often referred to as journaling. Put your ideas on a paper and don’t trust your mind that much to prevent you from writing your thoughts down. You just can’t clarify what you want in your mind they are just too many things that your mind is processing at a time. Therefore, it is imperative for you to write your ideas and thoughts down so as to clarify your intents.

5. Find a coach or mentor: A coach or mentor will not clarify your wants or make decisions for you. However, they can help you with the templates that will serve as guidelines, which will enable you to clarify and make decisions that are congruent with your core values. Your coach/mentor will hold you accountable to your objectives and the action plans to achieve whatever it is that you want out of your life. They can also help you unclustter your thoughts and move you forward in your pursuit.

This is not an exhaustive list however, you can begin instantly and take action on using the follow steps to start bring clarity to what you want out of your life. I know that there are great things in store for you and there are great things you are created to achieve and display. Now, go to work and make it happen.

“The minute you involve others in your vision, the minute your desire impact others, all your personal power factors will benefit from the multiplier effect. This is real leverage. it is obvious that, when you alone hold a visioin, you speak with one small voice. When you recruit others to the cause, you speak with a high fidelity, mega-watt sound system.”
Darby V. Checketts

Leverage is Power. The day and time when it was just the few that could harness the power of leverage has come to an end. Leverage is the ability to do more with less effort to achieve more. The ability to leverage the resources at your disposal has become critical to your personal and professional success. This is one skill that you have to acquire and consistently maintain, in order to achieve your expectations. Your success is no longer predicated solely on your personal knowledge and expertise but your ability to leverage other people’s knowledge, wisdom, money, relationships and time.

Benjamin Franklin once said: “There are two ways to acquire wisdom; you can either buy it or borrow it. By buying it, you pay full price in terms of time and cost to learn the lessons you need to learn. By borrowing it, you go to those men and women who have already paid the price to learn the lessons and get their wisdom from them.” With our world becoming a global village the extent to which you can now leverage the resources that abound in the earth is almost unlimited. You can now build an international business from your living room leveraging the power of the Internet, time and resources of people in other far countries.

We see the power of leverage in almost every aspect of our personal and professional lives. It is imperative that you understand that there are some things you may not have the capabilities, knowledge or the time to accomplish them. In order to succeed, you need to leverage the capabilities, knowledge and time of other people to achieve success. A very practical example can be seen as President-elect Barack Obama introduces his Economic Leadership Team, that’s some heavy-duty power of leverage as he taps these astute economic minds of our time.

Success today, largely depends on the results that you obtain from the leverage of other people doing things that are not your best areas of productivity and your highest return activities, which, is vital to your success. This is simply your ability to leverage the time, knowledge and information provided by other individuals. This concept enables you to do less and output more and this is not just in terms of money but time, relationships, opportunities and freedom to do what you are passionate about.

The question you ought to be asking in order to really maximize the power of leverage is this; is there one thing that you are doing that is bringing you inadequate outcome that could be enhanced with the help of someone else? For instance, you are attempting to self publish a book and promote it yourself, what could be the impact on the final outcome if you enlisted the help of others to promote the book for you? By enlisting the help of others, you can enlarge your reach and take the burden of doing it all by yourself off your shoulders.

The power of leverage can also be seen in many examples of our daily lives. For instance, we hire people to build our websites, to write our sales letters, to cut our grass, clean our homes, etc. We run a company and hire virtual assistants to take work off ourselves. As this year comes to an end, examine every aspect of your life where you can use the power of leverage.

You Get What You Give

Ralph Waldo Emerson, in his essay, “Compensation,” wrote that each person is compensated in like manner for that which he or she has contributed. The Law of Compensation is another restatement of the Law of Sowing and Reaping. It says that you will always be compensated for your efforts and for your contribution, whatever it is, however much or however little.

Increase Your Value

This Law of Compensation also says that you can never be compensated in the long term for more than you put in. The income you earn today is your compensation for what you have done in the past. If you want to increase your compensation, you must increase the value of your contribution.

Fill Your Mind With Success

Your mental attitude, your feelings of happiness and satisfaction, are also the result of the things that you have put into your own mind. If you fill your own mind with thoughts, visions and ideas of success, happiness and optimism, you will be compensated by those positive experiences in your daily activities.

Do More Than You’re Paid For

Another corollary of the Law of Sowing and Reaping is what is sometimes called the, “Law of Overcompensation.” This law says that great success comes from those who always make it a habit to put in more than they take out. They do more than they are paid for. They are always looking for opportunities to exceed expectations. And because they are always overcompensating, they are always being over rewarded with the esteem of their employers and customers and with the financial rewards that go along with their personal success.

Provide the Causes, Enjoy The Effects

One of your main responsibilities in life is to align yourself and your activities with Law of Cause and Effect (and its corollaries), accepting that it is an inexorable law that always works, whether anyone is looking or not. Your job is to institute the causes that are consistent with the effects that you want to enjoy in your life. When you do, you will realize and enjoy the rewards you desire.

Action Exercises

Here are two things you can do immediately to put these ideas into action.

First, remind yourself regularly that your rewards will always be in direct proportion to your service to others. How could you increase the value of your services to your customers today?

Second, look for ways to go the extra mile, to use the Law of Overcompensation in everything you do. This is the great secret of success.

Brian Tracy is the most listened to audio author on personal and business success in the world today. His fast-moving talks and seminars on leadership, sales, managerial effectiveness and business strategy are loaded with powerful, proven ideas and strategies that people can immediately apply to get better results in every area.
When you put a recipe together to prepare a bolognaise sauce for your spaghetti for instance, it is not one ingredient that determines the final outcome and the end of your preparation. It is a combination of different ingredients mixed together in the right proportion that will produce a sauce that is palatable. In the same token to be successful in any enterprise there are ingredients that must be mixed together in other to ensure success in that endeavour either personal or professional. Now it is your responsibility and mine to identify these ingredients and mix them in the right proportion to produce an extraordinary success.

Success in any enterprise is not the result of just a single ingredient at work in the process of achieving your goals and objectives but rather a combination of different ingredients working together to produce the kind of results anticipated. There are without doubt basic components that are foundational and relevant in the pursuit of success irrespective of areas such as personal, family and relationship, business and career, financial, physical and health that you seek to succeed in and I’d like to refer to these basic components as building blocks.

Here are a few building blocks for success in any aspect of your life:

You have to know exactly what you want

You have to be action oriented

You’ve got to have the ability to stay focus

You have to set goals

You’ve got to have a positive mental attitude

You’ve got to have success motivation

You have to be persistent and

You have to follow through on your objectives.

Please, don’t be astonished because of the simplicity of this list you can literally shatter barriers that would have otherwise hindered your success. You can begin your quest for success in any aspect of your life with these basic ingredients and add more to this list as you progress and aspire to take on more objectives or goals in your life. I would love to have your thoughts on this, please share your most important ingredient for success.

Developing the mindset of a champion. What is the striking difference between champions and non-champions? The answer is simple. It is their mindset; the way champions think separates them from the rest. With the past and present programming of failure and defeat it has become apparent to deprogram and reprogram your mindset for success and extraordinary achievement. However, the mindset of a champion cannot be developed overnight. There are series of events that leads to that state of mind. Anyone can actually develop a champion’s mindset and become a champion in their personal and professional endeavors. This is not something reserved for the elite but for anyone that is determined to undergo the process and commit to the developments of a champion’s mindset.

Please, understand that you do not necessarily have to be an Olympian with a gold medal or a world renowned heavy weight boxing champion but you can become a champion nonetheless when you confront and dethrone the giants in your life that militate against your personal and professional success. When you set goals and embark on achieving them, when you are able to do what you do in the face of insumountable challenges, when you become what the naysayer think you are unlikely to become you are a CHAMPION. When defeat and discouragements were imminent but believed in what was possible you are a CHAMPION. You believe in your own abilities to make it happen and refuse to allow your prevailing reality determine your tomorrow you are a CHAMPION. In spite of the odds against you, you came out an outstanding success you are a CHAMPION.

So what is a mindset and how is a mindset developed? What makes you possess a mindset that produces amazing success every time you attempt something? Well, let us examine a number of things that comes to mind.

What is a mindset? The America Heritage® Dictionary defines mindset as “A fixed metal attitude or disposition that predetermines a person’s responses to and interpretations of situations. (2) An inclination or habit.

Here are three critical ingredients to developing a champion’s mindset:

Commitment to the disciplines: If you are going to develop the mindset of a champion you’ve got to commit to the disciplines required to make it happen. For instance you have to learn the disciplines of staying focus, goal setting, passion, perseverance, self-motivation and taking action.

Exercise your mind by putting it to use: Champions are thinkers they put their minds to work. Stop allow other people or situations think for you. You will never strengthen the muscles of your mind this way. It is just like you going to the gym to exercise and build up your muscles just exactly what you should be doing to your mind by putting it to work. The more you use it the more it develops.

Associate with the champions: Another important factor in developing a champion’s mindset is to associate with other champions. And you will learn to partake of their breakfast. Their ways of thinking, their belief systems, habits, passions and actions start to rub off on you. When you fly with the eagles very soon you will learn to fly like them. In the same light if you hang with the turkeys they will rob on you. If you must develop a champion’s mindset associate with them

Finale

To succeed in any enterprise you’ve got to start thinking like a champion, staying focus like a champion, inspiring yourself from within like a champion, action oriented like a champion and finally not quitting like a champion because champions never quits and quitters never become champions. Remember you are the champion of your success. Go expand your horizon and I’ll see you at the top.

Goal-setting “master skill” for success. With this single skill you can almost outstrip any setback and have the advantage in your personal and professional endeavors. In the often-quoted study undertaken by Harvard University in 1979, graduates were asked how many of them had written goals with action plans for their achievement? Here was the finding from that study:

3 percent had clearly defined written goals

13 percent had written goals

84 percent had no goals in any shape or form.

Ten years later a follow-up study was conducted on the same students from Harvard University and it was discovered that the three percent who wrote their personal goals were ten times more successful than the other 97 percent who either had written their goals haphazardly or had none.

From the above study, it shows that goal-setting is a master skill for success and its application can yield results short and long term. A lot of people will always tell you that goal setting is easy but why is it that they never have any goals written down? The assumption that the simplicity of an exercise invalidates its effectiveness is an oversight. However, taking action to process ideas and putting pen to paper is important for your success motivation. Therefore, it is imperative to reiterate that goal-setting is a function of success motivation.

I have been thinking and processing this thought that most people are drawn back at the idea of goal-setting just because of the phrase goal-setting. Now, let’s demystify that word goal setting. Henry David Thoreau queried, “Have you built castles in the air? Good, that is where they should be built. Now go to work and build foundations under them.” Most individuals are focused and engulfed with the thoughts of what I don’t want more often than what I do want. This has always been and still is a major setback to the process of goal-setting and goal achievement. Let’s break this process of goal setting down into less intimidating terms that will sensitize and inspire you to do what you ought to do on your success journey.

Begin the process of goal-setting by:

1. Taking action: this is the action that initiates the process of goal setting as against just being dormant expecting things to change by themselves.

2. Identifying what it is you want in each aspect of your life. Most people are unclear and confused about the answers to this question. By resolving this question you are very well on your way to the process of goal setting.

3. Processing and marinating over these ideas. You have to allow yourself incubate these ideas until they are crystal clear.

4. Writing them down. Here you have to put your clear and crystallized ideas on paper. This will also serve as a point of reference as you progress on your success journey.

5. Thinking about how to achieve them.

6. Making a list of what you will have to do to achieve what you want.

7. Taking action: This is the process of execution that will move you toward your goal achievement.

Goal setting “master skill” for success is a definite skill that you can learn and master through consistent practice. You will make progress, see more of your dreams and life aspirations come to fruition through this process of goal setting. I cannot stress this point enough that goal setting is a function of success motivation. Take action today and you will be part of the three percent adults that actually put pen to paper and also be part of the three percent that become successful.

Motivation is often defined as the process of arousing, directing and maintaining behaviour toward a goal. You have declared your objective and set goals such as building a business, becoming a better public speaker, acquiring new skills or improving your health and so forth. One of the keys for success is to stay motivated. The difference between success and failure, misery and fun is usually motivation. In one of my recent post on Five Ways to Motivate Yourself I indicated that staying motivated is significant to the achievement of whatever you set to achieve. The following motivational tips will help you to stay focused on your goals for success:

1. Set priorities: Here is how to work effectively and stay motivated. Write down your task to be accomplished at the beginning of the day. Then, prioritize the activities in the order of importance. This will help you avoid clusters of unfinished work that can demotivate you and diminished your results.

2. Use your goals: One of the advantages of goal setting is that it gives you short-term and long-term motivation and focus. Once you have planned your project and set your priorities, turn your attention to developing several goals that will enable you become successful.

3. Surround yourself with positive people: You can leverage from the kind of people you associate and surround yourself with either positive or negative. Therefore, make a wise choice of associating and surrounding yourself with positive individuals at the same time stay away from the naysayers. This single factor will keep you motivated in no small measures.

4. Clarify your intents: You are unlikely to succeed in any enterprise without clarifying your intents. One of the things that can keep you motivated is to clarify your intent, as unclear desires are hindrances to your motivation.

5. Decide to follow through: From the onset you have to make a decision to follow through on your projects. For between you and the action to be taken is the decision to act and follow through on your action. Your decision will help keep you motivated in the face adverse circumstances.

6. Create a clear plan of action: Someone said: “failing to plan is planning to fail.” It would be ridiculous to be halfway through building a house before taking into consideration the cost but only to discover the lack of resources. To save time, you must have an action plan to get your tasks done from start to finish.

7. Acquire the needed skill or knowledge: Lack of knowledge or skill in any particular project can lead to lack of motivation. Consequently, before embarking on a project, evaluate what knowledge or skills you have, what skills you need to acquire and what others you need to improve.

8. Create conducive atmosphere for development: Very often certain atmospheres are not conducive for development and growth. Thus hindering any meaningful progress. Lack of progress breeds lack of motivation 95% of the times. Hence, it is imperative to create an atmosphere conducive for development to stay motivated all the time and through the process of goal achievement.

Hey Champ, don’t lose your steam, stay focus and motivated and I’ll see you at the top.

To Your Success
