Depression and anger are somewhat related. In a sense they are on opposite sides of a coin. The only difference is depression can lead to anger while anger will never lead to depression. Why? Take working long hours to achieve or accomplish something for example and ending up failing, getting ignored, unappreciated or overlooked. Tendencies are, you would probably end up getting depressed, asking yourself questions why, where and how you may have gone wrong; in time though this depression can lead you to blame other people, whether directly or indirectly related to the issue, making you resentful, hating, hostile and otherwise angry.
Anger when unmanaged properly can cause enough problems, add depression to that and you basically have a growing nightmare in your hands. That is why its important that you practice depression management techniques in order to prevent any unwanted circumstances from popping up in the future. For starters, here are a few that you can probably use:
Art Therapy: Aside from serving as a pleasurable pastime, art has also been used by mental health experts in helping many individuals deal with psychological problems, including depression, anxiety and anger. Although this method may not really belong to self help as it requires the help of an experienced psychologist in order to be learned and practiced properly.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy: This method focuses on the way that you think, act and react in times of psychological distress and changing them in order to allow you to conform to a better, more rational and more constructive state. This method also requires the help of an expert in order to be practiced and benefited from.
Anger Management Classes: Taking anger management classes can also help you deal with anger and depression. Depending on your need and level of comfort, you can choose from individual or group conducted classes, and can also be taken online. While this method may also require payment, the value that you will be getting in exchange will be worth all of the penny that you shell out.
Sadly in terms of self help, few or maybe none can be given as most of the self help techniques are either somewhat exclusively for depression or for anger alone. Deep breathing, progressive muscle relaxation, imagery, yoga or meditation will somewhat serve minimally if you are aiming to eliminate both depression and anger.
But you never know. Try researching on it a bit, check the internet or ask your mental health provider, you might be able to get more information that can prove detrimental to your efforts, just as long as you do not let the condition get out of your handle.
