Six key Strategies for Motivation

Scientists have defined motivation as the process of arousing, directing and maintaining behaviour toward a goal. Motivation gives purpose and direction to your actions. “Motive”, the root word of motivation, is defined as a reason to act.

The right motivation behind your efforts in every area of your life will be rewarded in immeasurable ways. Whenever we do not achieve our desired goals or objectives, lack of (or in some cases, improper motivation) motivation is often at the root of failure to achieve goals or objectives.

Motivation is like “steam” which, when properly channeled, will propel a train. Nevertheless, without it, the train remains motionless. Careful construction and preparation for traveling is of no consequence if there is no steam to propel the train. So it is with you and I. If you are motivated and the motivation properly channeled, great things can and will be achieved in every aspect of your life.

Motivation is the key to all activities in every area of your life. People easily become bogged down, lose perspective, and become discouraged and side-tracked. They need motivation to keep going. For most people motivation is not automatic. As a matter of fact it is downright hard for a lot of individuals. Hence it is imperative to have access to positive, inspirational and motivational materials.

What should be your motivation?

Vision: As the Bible states: “Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he”. (Proverbs 29:18). A motivating vision is the common denominator for extraordinary achievement

Sense of purpose:
This is the bedrock of your motivation and it is the catalyst that drives your intents and the desire to achieve any endeavor that you embark on. Without a sense of purpose, lack of motivation is inevitable.

Attainable goals: When goals are set, the subconscious mind activates certain inner dynamics geared toward achieving that desired goal. Goals create an atmosphere conducive for motivation and the fulfillment.

Family and relationships: If you have tried and failed so many times, and are on the verge of losing confidence in yourself and your dreams, the thought of family, relationships and the importance of your contribution to your community could stir up and motivate you to keep pushing through limitations toward your aspirations.

Health and fitness:
Health is one of the elements that will keep you motivated. The ability to function wholly correlates with your overall spiritual and physical well-being. An unhealthy body can neither survive nor sustain the demands your quest for a meaningful and productive life will exert on it. As a result, your health and fitness becomes motivating elements, if you must accomplish your goals and fulfill your purpose. This must be taken into consideration as you aspire to be all that you were ordained to be.

Financial independence:
The desire to be financially independent motivates many individuals to persevere on the path for success. Then, there are others who start something but do not follow through because of failures, setbacks and heartbreak. Such people let go when the going gets tough, and see their failure as unalterable, even though they may be inches from their set goals and objectives.
