Self Improve Blog: Quote Meal

Here are some profound and yet simple inspirational and motivational quotes on personal development for your empowerment as you navigate through the week.

“Income seldom exceeds personal development.” Jim Rohn

“If you wish to achieve worthwhile things in your personal and career life, you must become a worthwhile person in your own self-development.” Brian Tracy

“Education is the great engine of personal development. It is through education that the daughter of a peasant can become a doctor, that a son of a mineworker can become the head of the mine, that a child of farm workers can become the president of a nation.” Nelson Mandela

“We who live in free market societies believe that growth, prosperity and ultimately human fulfillment, are created from the bottom up, not the government down. Only when the human spirit is allowed to invent and create, only when individuals are given a personal stake in deciding economic policies and benefiting from their success — only then can societies remain economically alive, dynamic, progressive, and free. Trust the people. This is the one irrefutable lesson of the entire postwar period contradicting the notion that rigid government controls are essential to economic development.” Ronald Reagan

“It is about trying to cope with the work I’ve got, get the balance right between home life and work life — trying to do a good job always with one eye on personal development.” Michelle Lewis

“Personal development is your springboard to personal excellence. Ongoing, continuous, non-stop personal development literally assures you that there is no limit to what you can accomplish.” Brian Tracy

“Too many people take their wants into consideration, never their talents and abilities.” John Mason

Shawn McCastle’s Interview with Richard Onebamoi

Shawn McCastle’s Interview with Richard Onebamoi, Peopleized by: ezramillo – Saturday, 30 August 2008.

Successfacilitator Shawn McCastle interviews Richard Onebamoi a Pastor, International Speaker and Success Facilitator.

ezramillo: In a fews words, give us a brief bio?

Successfacilitator: Hello Shawn, first and foremost let me take this opportunity to thank you so very much for the interview.

Well, my name is Richard Onebamoi, I am a Pastor, International Speaker and Success Facilitator. I am the founder and president of Living Stone Family Worship Centre International located in Brussels, Belgium. I’m also the President and Executive Facilitator of Success Empowerment Network. I am married to Catherine who co-pastor with me and she is the Associate Executive Facilitator of Success Empowerment Network. We are blessed with four children and I reside in Brussels, Belgium in the heart of the European Union with my family.

ezramillo: Briefly, would you share your background, interest, and motivations?

Successfacilitator: My interests are: Vacating with my family, reading, travelling, meeting people, building strong relationships and listening to audio books with emphasis or personal and leadership development. My motivation is a sense of purpose, family and vision. Proverbs 29:18

ezramillo: In a changing world, do you find what you do more critical than ever before? If so, please expound.

Successfacilitator: Well, no one can claim to have all the answers to our changing world. I believe that God has created everyone for a specific purpose on the earth. In his book “The Law of Recognition” Dr. Mike Murdock states, “You were created to solve a problem.” I believe that what I do is critical because success is God’s intent for all of his creation and helping in facilitating that journey is my assignment.

ezramillo: As a pastor/teacher and success facilitator, do you apply biblical principles in what you share with people? If so, to what degree, and how do you balance the secular and the biblical principles?

Successfacilitator: Yes, I do use biblical principles when I train and coach people. I train and speak to audiences were I have a mixture of people who share my spiritual beliefs and those who don’t. With that said, my spirituality permeates my personal relationships, my business interactions, and my volunteer activities. Therefore, there is no limit to which I can use biblical principles if it is appropriate and relevant to the subject at hand. The balance for me between secular and biblical principles is the scriptural admonition that states, “Prove all things, and hold fast to that which is good.”

ezramillo: Generally, as people write they release a part on themselves. As you write, what portion of yourself do you believe you share with your audience or is it a combination of factors such as enculturation and your spiritual beliefs?

Successfacilitator: One of the most important things that I have to be crystal clear about in whatever I do is PURPOSE. Purpose therefore, becomes the motivation behind my actions. Whatever, I do, either to write or train I will first define the purpose or intent. As a Pastor, my purpose is to feed God’s people with the undiluted word of God. When I train or write as a success facilitator, my intent is to communicate information that I have gleaned from great minds or through research and studies that I believe is relevant to people’s migration toward their purpose and destiny.

ezramillo: In your work, you discuss many different issues and topics, where do you draw your inspiration?

Successfacilitator: My inspiration comes first and foremost from my relationship with Jesus Christ. I also get my inspiration from observation, studying, research, a life long learning process and daily experiences.

ezramillo: A good foundation is important to all success and understanding, where do you believe people should begin or is there such?

Successfacilitator: The foundation of a building determines the size, the strength and the weight that the building can support as well as its durability when under pressure. You may have a beautiful edifice with beautiful interior decorations, but without a solid foundation it is just a matter of time before it comes crumbling down. Relate that to man. It is imperative therefore, to have a solid foundation. Joshua 1:8, is one of my favourite biblical principles that I have used during my training and coaching sessions. If there is a good success, there must be a bad success. As a Christian believer having a solid biblical foundation is a most if you must have good success in your personal and professional life. Defining your core values will be the next foundation to be laid on your quest for extraordinary success and anything you want to do for that matter. You see, Shawn, values steer your actions and determine where you spend time, energy, and most importantly, how you live.

ezramillo: Based on your written work, it is contingent on continued progression, learning, and understanding, what do you believe is the largest hindrance which blocks the success and motivation of the people with whom you write and speak to?

Successfacilitator: As I work and travel across the nations preaching and training one of the common hindrances that I see is improper definition of things. Most people do not have the right perspective of things and when this occurs they are unable to function. The next hindrance is that most people have no knowledge of exactly what they want. The dilemma is that we have the propensity to assume that every body knows what they want. Truly that is not the case most of the times and this is a hindrance to success and motivation.

ezramillo: Because success is an investment, on average, how much time would you say that you invest into your own success?

Successfacilitator: Yes, success is an investment. It is a journey, not a destination and a daily walk. Everything you do every minute of the day ought to be moving you toward success. Consequently, I invest every minute of my God-given 24 hours in my success, spiritually, family and relationships, physically, ministry and financially.

ezramillo: Is there a time when you personally feel as though you are speaking in the wind? That is, do you feel sometimes that you are speaking on deaf ears. If so, please expound.

Successfacilitator: Well, yes I do feel sometimes that I am speaking to the wind. As a Pastor and Success facilitator this does happen a lot. I have learnt though not to cast the blame, because this could be as a result of numerous factors but rather to step back examine and revaluate the situation so as to ascertain the problem and make adjustments accordingly.

ezramillo: Time is one of the most precious and priceless gifts to humankind, which often times many do not realize, unfortunately, until it is too late. What do you believe is the largest barrier in this area, and would you share a few remedies.

Successfacilitator: Time management is a subject that is absolutely relevant to anyone’s success. Seminars are conducted on this subject across the nations and there are countless books written on this issue. Yet many are still struggling with it. Again I think most people have the subject of time management so complicated that it becomes overwhelming. We all have 24 hours a day and 7 days a week and 52 weeks a year. We cannot manage time as it were but what we manage is the activities within the allotted time. Hence one of the major barriers to time management is procrastination. This is putting activities that should be done on hold for a later date. They will only pile up to the point where activities to be accomplished become daunting to say the least. Now, in achieving success it is imperative, that you wisely invest your time in activities that are congruent with your purpose.

ezramillo: Education plays a vital role in success. Do you truly believe the educational system is equipped to handle the multifaceted learning curves that are presented daily in todays society? In not or if so, define a more flexible environment for learning that is more suited to handle these present educational challenges.

Successfacilitator: The fact that education plays a vital role in success cannot be overemphasis. However, the traditional educational system has some merits and demerits. The traditional educational provides the basics of learning which is of utmost importance. Now, after that, I will suggest self-education system because we must continually acquire knowledge and information so as to address new challenges that we are confronted with or to achieve anything of worth in our lives.

ezramillo: Finally, do you believe our present educational system cripples some people and enable others?

Successfacilitator: I could not give you a categorical yes or no if our present educational system cripples some and enables others because there are several factors that could play major roles in crippling and enabling others. For instance, Geographic location or finances, you see in some countries there are people who can’t even afford basic education because they do not have the means while others have the means. The bottom line is what I said earlier on our present educational system has merits and the demerits.

Thank you once again for the opportunity to share my thoughts with you and audience.

Success in Business – Failure at Home

Have you ever thought how strange it is that there are men and women who succeed at everything they do and fail with their families. They know how to build businesses from ground up but fail miserably when it comes to building a home. Why is this so?

Have you ever thought of men and women with great business and leadership skills but yet cannot translates those skills into building a solid home that become a fortitude for their spouses and children.  Why is this so?

Have you ever thought of men who possess the motivation and tenacity to turn around a dying and failing business but yet unable to savage a marriage that is on the verge of falling apart and the centre can no longer hold. Why is this so?

Have you ever consider men and women who have the aptitude to create a compelling vision for their teams and lead them to extraordinary achievements but yet are unable to create a vision for their children to follow. Why is this so?

Have you ever thought of men who crave continual learning to meet professional challenges and be highly competitive in the marketplace but are not learning to meet the challenges of their adolescent children with unresolved issues. Why is this so?

These are legitimate concerns because we have seen too many examples of men and women who have succeeded in business and failed at home. Here I will provide simple but yet fundamental answers to these queries.

1.    Taking Responsibility: To start with, you have to start taking responsibility over your actions and failures. You have to take control over your life and family. The idea of blaming everybody else with the exception of yourself is obsolete. Make yourself accountable for the solution today.

2.    What is important to you: Most people are determined to succeed at all cost beside family. Nevertheless, the tragedy is that you are failing in the most important thing in your life, which is your family. You have to decide that your family is most important that you will give anything to build it.

3.    Balance: Most men will argue I am working so hard for my family. I have to provide for them and that is why I am always away from home, my wife and children. As heroic that may seem, whatever you do at the expense of your family no matter how good the intentions are its purpose will have be defeated with a home torn apart. You have to bring balance between your family life and work life. Family time is family time and work time is work time.

4.    Core values: It is important to identify and define what your core values are and build your personal and professional goals around those values.

5.    Seek help: Solicit guidance and become accountable to a mentor who is an example with solid family values and not someone struggling in this area. As you acquire business skills, you ought to acquire family skills too. Attend family seminars with spouse and children to acquire the knowledge that will help you become successful in building a solid home for you and your family.

6.    Give yourself to your family: You see, my friends things that money can buy cannot replace you. You may be successful in business and can command anything at the beckon of your hand financially for your family nonetheless you are irreplaceable. You have to give yourself to your family rather than toys for children and jewelries for your spouse. Please, understand that you are worth more than anything that money or prestige can buy to your family.

Goal achievement: More harm than good?

“Most people struggle with life balance simply because they haven’t paid the price to decide what is really important to them.” Stephen Covey

I came across a thought-provoking article entitled “Are You Too Obsessed with Your Goals?” To begin with, allow me give you this caveat, anything you become obsessed with will not serve your ultimate purpose in the final outcome. The question “Are there times when goal achievement can do more harm than good?” caught my attention in that article that I thought I should share my thoughts for my wonderful readers. Any of your comments on this topic will be greatly appreciated.

To think about it, what use is your goal achievement if it is not congruent with your core values and life’s mission? None I believe in my candid opinion. Goal achievement is meant to do good all the times. It is expected to better your life and not to make your life bitter.

In the example given in that article, a man got divorced three times because his wives kept complaining that he worked all of the time. This implies, that he was working all the time on his goal achievement at the expense of his family. This example is a good example of misplaced priorities when goal achievement is at the expense of things that matter most. Such as family, health and relationship.

The issue is here is not goal achievement but the goals that are not in harmony with one’s core values and life’s mission. It is imperative therefore; to identify what your core values and life’s mission are before setting and pursuing your goals. Your goals should be deliberately set to be in harmony with your core values and to move you in the direction of your life’s mission.

To stress the point once again, it is not goal achievement that does the harm but rather when your goals are not congruent with your core values and life’s mission. Identify your core values, life’s mission and set goals that will move you in that direction and your goal achievement will do you more good that harm all the time.

7 Characteristics of Principles Part 2

Excerpt from Myles MUNROE

This is the second part of my recent post about Dr. Myles Munroe’s book “The Purpose and Power of Praise and Worship” were he outlined explicitly the characteristics of Principle.

1.    Principles can never be broken: The laws of gravity state that the mass of the earth, the moon, or another planet will exert a certain pull on objects at or near its surface. This pull will draw the objects toward it. With the invention of airplanes, helicopters, and other modes of air transportation, one might say that the laws of gravity have been broken. Such a statement can never be true because a principle of creation cannot be broken. What can happen is that man devises various means to combat or redirect the forces of gravity. Then, although the principle of gravity is not evident in a particular event or circumstance, the principle itself-that is, the rule that objects at or near the earth’s surface are pulled toward the earth if they are not in some manner prevented from doing so-still holds true.

2.    Principles, when violated, produce destruction: What seems right to you for the use of a product is not necessarily in agreement with what the manufacturer of a product intended. For example, when you buy an iron, the box it comes in contains a little booklet that lists the commandments or laws of the manufacturer concerning its function. These are often called the operating instructions. They tell you how to us the iron so you get the maximum performance from it.

Now you could take that iron, plug it into the wall, and put it into the bathtub with you to heat up the water. Since an iron is supposed to get hot, that way may seem right to you: “The iron is not and the water is cold, so I’ll just put the iron into the water to make it warm”. Guess what? There’s a way that seem right unto a man, but the end of it is a shocking experience!

Both you and the iron will suffer damage because of your choice to violate the iron’s operating instructions (principles).

3.    Principles contain inherent judgment: This last characteristic of principles is particularly important. For example, the principle of fire is heat. When you put your hand in fire, you can expect to get burned because fire produces heat. In other words, you don’t get burned because God burns you or the devil burns you. You get burned because heat is a principle of fire. In essence, the judgment-the burn-is inherent in the principle.

Thus, much of what we call “acts of God” are simply judgments that are inherent in God’s principles of creation. For example, God has killed no man. Rather, “the wages (natural results) of sin is death” (Rom. 6: 23a). When you play around with sin and start flirting with things you shouldn’t be doing, you don’t have to worry whether someone will find you out because your own activities will tell on you. Why is this true? Sin contains an inherent judgment. When you violate God’s principle, the principle itself contains your discipline or punishment.
