Three Keys for Effective Problem Solving

Jim Rohn observed, “To solve any problem, here are three questions to ask yourself: First, what could I do? Second, what could I read? And third, who could I ask? “

Problems are common to everyone but where the rubber meets the road is how you respond to the problems. Considering the quote above there are three questions to ask yourself in providing solution to problems.

First, What could I do?

This is a legitimate question what could I do differently that could alter the situation at hand. For instance you could a have a problem with your colleague at work, before seeking who to point the blame finger to you should ask yourself what could I do to solve this problem that I am having with my colleague. Now, because you have asked an empowering question your mind provide you with answers that will ultimately solve the problems. You should always endeavour to ask this question in crisis.

Second, What could I read?

Good books will spur you into action. You could discover one or two things that can provide you with the solutions to the problems. Jim Rohn is quoted as saying: “the book you did not read cannot help you.” It is very important that you read books related to subject matters of interest to you. Read books to give you new ideas and skills. Charlie Tremendous Jones observed, “You will be the same person in five years as you are today except for the people you meet and the books you read.” Read auto/biographies of successful people.

Third, Who could I ask?

This is pivotal to your personal and professional success. It is important to understand the power of leverage as well as the fact that some may have gone through your similar struggles. Asking the right questions to these individuals will enable you glean from their experiences and enjoy the solutions they can provide. This will help you find solutions to the problem in most cases. Hence cultivating personal and professional relationships is invaluable.

In one of my recent post on ‘how to overcome success limitations’ I indicated that belonging to a mastermind group is priceless in helping to provide solutions. It is also important to reiterate that soliciting the assistance of a mentor in troubling times can provide immense benefits.

Allow these questions to form the bases of seeking ways to provide lasting solutions to the problems you might encounter on your success journey. Now it’s your turn to provide us with three keys for effective problem solving. Thanks in advance.

Developing an Attitude of Gratitude

How do you begin your day?  Do you pour yourself a cup of coffee, recline to your sofa, and turn on the radio or television to get the latest news reports, at the same time exposing yourself to countless reasons why you should be depressed and unthankful for the events in your life and the world. If this is your best-case scenario then you need to make some adjustments.

Think of developing an attitude of gratitude seeing that it will give you the power and confidence to approach every situation with the expectation that it is going to be all right and it is a prerequisite if you must succeed in your endeavours.

An attitude of gratitude is a component of a mindset for success and it requires effort, for which the following steps are necessary:

  • Quiet Time: Develop a habit of having quiet times. These are moments that you could step aside from all your activities and reflect on the way you have been blessed. Bishop David Oyedope said that he has a quiet place that he reclines to which he calls his THINKING ROOM. The thinking room or whatever you chose to call your solitary places is a place of rest, a place to brainstorm and strategize. A place like this is a must have. The importance of having quiet times cannot be overemphasized and its benefits are unparallel. Learn to begin your day in a quiet moment.
  • Count Your Blessings: Developing an attitude of gratitude is pivotal to your success. Spend some time at the beginning of your day thinking of 5 to 7 ways your have been blessed. Be grateful for the opportunity to have experienced such blessings and empowerment. Think about the people in your life, your family, your colleagues, friends and acquaintances for how they have enriched your life and make you become the person you are.
  • Focus on Your blessings: To develop an attitude of gratitude you must focus on the positive and learn from the negatives in your life, this will give you a proper perspective on things. What you focus on will eventually determine your outcome and state of mind. You have to focus on the good things in and through your life that you can be grateful for.
  • Be Thankful in all Things: The Bible states, “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made know unto God.” That’s it right there, be anxious for nothing as this will obliterate your attitude of gratitude instead be thankful.

George Herbert stated, “Thou hast given so much to me give me one thing more, a grateful heart.” You can begin your day with this frame of mind.

Knowledge: key to Success

“When you know what you want, and want it bad enough, you will find a way to get it.” Jim Rohn

What is knowledge? Knowledge is simply the proper application of what you understand. In actual fact you cannot claim to possess knowledge until it has been applied. Mental or head knowledge cannot produce lasting results only when translated into action. Knowledge conveys the information across and it is only through application that it can be turned into achievable outcomes.

Competence in any aspect of life comes from knowledge and skills. Knowledge is a fundamental key for success. It is what you know that can put you on the path to personal and professional success. Success will be elusive without knowledge and can also be greatly enhanced by it. The focus here is not suggesting head or mental knowledge, seeing that there are a lot of individuals with head or mental knowledge and yet far from the shores of success.

For instance, you may have accurate knowledge about the process of goal setting nevertheless, until you apply that knowledge it will not serve the purpose for which it is intended. It is applied knowledge that can guarantee success in the final analysis. It is one thing to have how-to knowledge but that knowledge does nothing for you on its own without taking action.

What you do not know will hurt you and ignorance is not bliss. To stress it further, what you know and do not apply will hurt you gravely.  Most people are well knowledgeable about a whole lot of things from personal to professional, or spiritual to physical. The mere acquisition of knowledge will not produce real value on your success journey.  The value and the desired outcome are created when you apply what you know.

You can pursue your dream and achieve success if only you can start applying what you know right now and build upon that knowledge as you progress. Let me here from you.

Developing a Mindset for Success

One of the single impediments to developing a mindset for success is lack of the understanding of what success means to you. Therefore in developing a mindset for success it is imperative to understand and define what success means to you. Once this is clear then you can begin with the process of developing a mindset for success. There are countless definitions of success on the internet and in books but you cannot develop a mindset for success on the bases of someone’s definition and understanding of success, however their definition and understanding could serve as a guidepost.

Tip # 1. Change your Thinking:

The Holy Bible states, “As he thinks in his heart, so is he. This simply means you are what you think. Is your thinking success-oriented or failure-oriented? Success in any enterprise begins in the form of thought and only the person in whose mind the thought is set in motion limits the degree to which he will experience it. It has been proven that you attract what you think about the most. That is, your dominating thoughts will eventually reproduce themselves in outward, physical manifestation. Changing the thoughts that are not congruent with success thinking and disallowing them to take residence in your mind is invaluable.

Tip # 2. Know what you want:

To develop a Mindset for success you must know exactly want you want. As it occurred to you that most people don’t really know what they want? Taking this for granted will be an oversight. Determine what is it that you really want out of life and then take action that are in harmony with your desired intent.

Tip # 3. Read Books:

It is a stated fact that most people never read after they graduate from high school. Charlie “Tremendous” Jones observed, “You are the same today that you are going to be in five years from now except for two things: the people with whom you associate and the books you read.”

Tip # 4. Focus:

Focus and define the perfect outcome. Without focus it becomes a difficult task to have a mindset for success because of the so many things that is soliciting for your undivided attention. Staying focus on the perfect outcome helps to develop and maintains a mindset for success.

Tip # 5. Proper perspective:

Perspective makes all the difference to anyone that aspire for success in any enterprise. In the midst of challenging times taking a long look at the situations of life is the best antidote to depression, frustration and anything that could sabotage your efforts for success. Always putting things in proper perspective will help developing a mindset for success.

Tip # 6. Association:

You might have heard the saying: “Birds of the same feather flock together.” Well, this saying holds true, not only for birds, but also for successful and unsuccessful people. Your associations will ultimately play out on who you become. Choose your associations wisely because it can affect and determine your mindset for success.

Here are my top 6 tips on developing a mindset for success. Of course this is not an exhaustive list. Please, jump in with your top tips on developing a mindset for success. Thanks for sharing.

Achieving Financial Independence

“Make all you can, save all you can, give all you can.” John Wesley

To achieve financial independence, you have to reprogram your mind from being poverty-minded to having a wealthy mentality. Both poverty and wealth are the result of your mental state, and you become financially successful in your thinking long before you achieve it in reality. Hence, having a sound mind is relevant to you financial future. If you can settle this issue in your mental faculties, you certainly can settle it in your checking account securing a stable financial future.

Most people want to get out of debt and be financially independent, however, desire, although a necessary element for becoming wealthy, is not enough by itself. You need information, self discipline, action plan and goals towards which you must take steps. It is also imperative to deal with certain aspects of your life, such as your spending habits, “living like the Joneses”, lack of frugality and other dysfunctions that could militate against financial future.

Your most important responsibility as an individual is to achieve financial independence for yourself, family and your community. The Bible lets us understands that “A good man leaves an inheritance (not debts and the fear of creditors) to his children’s children” (Proverbs 13:22a author’s words in parenthesis). Your financial prowess will enable you provide basic amenities and infrastructure such as pipe borne water, schools, recreation centres and good roads for your community as you are your brother’s keeper.

You are responsible. The most important personal decision you can make is to accept complete responsibility for everything you are and everything you will ever be. Financial freedom is only possible when you accept complete responsibility for your financial situation. The acceptance of complete responsibility indicates your refusal to make excuses or blame others for your current financial dilemma. You refuse to criticize others for any reason or to complain about your financial predicament but must accept full responsibility for your current situation before any meaningful and lasting changes can occur financially or any other aspect of your life for that matter.

The acceptance of responsibility is the foundation of high self-esteem, self-respect and personal pride that are necessary ingredients for goal setting and the momemtum needed to drive you toward that goal. Financial independence begins with specific, attainable goals and definite plan for carring out your desire. You must decide exactly on the amount of money you intend to acquire, state the time limit for its acquisition. Then, you must describe clearly a detailed plan of action through which you intend to achieve your financial goals.
